The United States Corps of Chaplains (USCOC) is a non-sectarian Christian ministerial and volunteer public service organization made up of former and retired military personnel and other patriotic, public spirited citizens.

Following the tragic events of September 11th, 2001 it became evident that there was a lack of an organized civilian Corps of Chaplains available to respond to Acts of Terrorism, Natural Disasters and other Critical Incidents. It also became clear as a result of several simultaneous military actions that there were not enough Military Chaplains available to provide Ministerial services, support and Military Honors to active duty soldiers, their families and veterans. To fill the void the US Corps of Chaplains was formed.

A Chaplain's Prayer

O Holy One,
When disaster strikes by air, land or sea
Strengthen me.

When shock numbs, stuns, or overcomes me
Hold me.

When the flames of anger threaten me
Calm me.

When retaliation seems my only choice
Speak to me of grace.

When I would be god to save all
Humble me.

Creator of the air, land and sea:
Strengthen me, that I may calm others.
Ground me, that I may be peace for others.
Empower me, that I may act where I am.
Humble me, that I may know my need
Is always, always to live in You.

Amen
